Royal files are accompanied by a number that indicates the Grain or Grit, or "The roughness index of a file". The higher the Grit (type 180), the finer the grain will be and therefore less abrasive; on the contrary, a low Grit (such as 80, 100) implies a coarser and consequently more abrasive grain:
Shorten/Remove gel: grit 80/100 (extra coarse/coarse)
Shaping: grit 100/180 (coarse/medium grain)
Shaping: grit 150/180 (medium/medium grain)
Sanding: grit 180/240 (medium/fine grain)
